My art journey began late in 2009. I felt I had a creative streak for some time unconsciously. I had been doing volunteer work for a crisis organisation for some time, early in 2009 one of the fellow volunteers was having a open house for people to experience art therapy. I attended and enjoyed it so much that over the next few months my creative juices were bubbling away. I felt a continuous desire to paint again.
It took me till September 2009 to do an introduction to art in Melbourne. In the final lesson the teachers last words were "if you want to develop your art, just don’t stop painting". I took his advice & practiced nearly every day. I came to the point where I wasn’t satisfied with my progress. I found Peninsula Art Society and a very fine person and a very talented experienced teacher by the name of Marilyn Richards. I spent 18 months under her wing. She noticed my keen eyes for painting seascapes and she introduced me to the work of world renowned seascape artist from America, E.J. Robinson, whose paintings have inspired my own.
I’ve done work shops with Craig Penny, a well established Melbourne painter working mainly acrylic and water colour. I have been taught by a great artist named Robert Wright, who was inspiring with his teachings in structure and seascape. I have also had lessons with a well known artist, Collin Johnston, while I was living in the Mornington Peninsula. In 2012 I moved further North to the lovely Bayside area and became a member on the Mordialloc /Mentone Art Society in 2014. My art teacher there was Clive Sinclair. He was absolutely fantastic and introduced me to plein air painting, which we did regularly. I exhibited with the society and had work highly recommended. I also exhibited at the prestigious annual Bayside Art Exhibition.
I paint for the joy of painting and developing my skills. At the end of 2016 my life changed and I made some new plans and moved to the Central Coast. 2017 was the beginning of a new journey with new places to explore and paint. Plein air was my favourite part of the first couple of years. I became a exhibitor with Pearl Beach Art Group and am still actively involved with them. I have had the privilege of meeting Russell Austin, a great artist and teacher who is very well known and respected on the Central Coast, and have spent the last year learning from him. And now I am excited to become a member of the Bay Gallery.
