TERMS & CONDITIONS
The Inaugural 2020 Theme is “DEPTH”
Conditions of Entry
1. Eligibility
1.1. All artworks must be original work.
1.2. All artworks must be accompanied by a statement of a maximum of 100 words describing how the artwork relates to the theme, “Depth”.
1.3. All artworks if nominated as finalists must be submitted for final judging and exhibition.
1.4. No artwork will be accepted that includes photography.
1.5. No artwork by participating judges, members of the Art Studios Co-operative and the immediate family of either, will be accepted for this prize.
2. Entry Submission and Fee
2.1. Entries to the 2020 Jocelyn Smith Philosophy Art Prize open on the 5th of August 2019 and close at midnight on the 21st of January 2020.
2.2. The entry must be either 2D or 3D and conform to the specifications in Paragraphs 3-7.
2.3. Entries are to be submitted online with a single digital photo for 2D submissions of artworks and 2 or 3 digital photos for 3D artworks.
2.4. An unrefundable entry fee of $25 Australian dollars is to be paid online at our online entry form (collected via TryBooking.com) and BookingID included with art upload entry.
2.5. Digital photos of work should be no more than 2MB.
2.6. A separate entry form and fee is required for each submission and there is no limit to the number of submissions.
2.7 Entries are submissions for consideration to be hung in the Jocelyn Smith Philosophy Art Prize exhibition. Entry does not guarantee selection into this curated exhibition. Entry fee is to be paid for entering artworks for consideration, regardless of selection to final exhibition.
3. Preparation of Artwork
3.1. All artworks selected as finalists must be presented framed or appropriately mounted for display and final judging.
3.2. All 2D artworks must be secured with D-rings and professional hanging cord which is attached a quarter of the length from the top edge of the artwork
3.3. All works with hanging wire, inappropriate cord, screw eyes, other protruding metal or wire or are wet will not be accepted.
3.4. A label with the artists name , phone number title of work and price must be marked clearly on the back of each artwork. These details must be the same as on the entry form. This can be achieved by printing your "ticket" and attaching it to the back of your artwork.
3.5. If the presented artwork does not meet the presentation standards above, it can be disqualified without recourse or refund.
4. Size and Weight of Artwork
4.1. The maximum size of 2D artworks (including frame) is one metre only including the frame in any one direction. The maximum weight is 15 kilograms.
4.2. The maximum size of 3D artworks is 35cm x 35cm base and 50cm height. The maximum weight of a 3D artwork is 30 kilograms. Any top heavy or physically unbalanced work may be deemed unsafe and disqualified without recourse or refund.
4.3. Any artwork that exceeds this size or weight will not be considered for exhibition or award.
5. Exhibition of Artwork
5.1. All artworks selected for the exhibition will be deemed finalists and the artists will be notified by Tuesday 11th of February 2020. They will be listed on the Art Studios Co-operative website and via email.
5.2. All artworks selected for exhibition must remain on show for the duration of the exhibition. No early collection can be accommodated.
5.3. Curatorial responsibility for the 2020 Jocelyn Smith Philosophy Art Prize Exhibition is maintained by the Art Studios Co-operative. They will also determine the best relative position for each artwork and their decision is final.
5.4. The 2020 Jocelyn Smith Philosophy Art Prize Exhibition Award Night will be held on Saturday 7th March from 6pm to 8pm at the Bay Gallery, 29 Broken Bay Road, Ettalong Beach.
6. Delivery of Artwork
6.1. Artworks selected as finalists must be delivered to the Bay Gallery, 29 Broken Bay Road, Ettalong Beach between 10am to 4pm on Thursday 27th February , Friday 28th February, Saturday 29th February or Sunday 1st March.
6.2. All delivery and collection costs are the responsibility of the artist.
6.3. Artworks not delivered at the designated time will be deemed ineligible for exhibition and disqualified from the final adjudication.
7. Collection of Finalists Artwork
7.1. Artists must collect their work on the following dates; Sunday 22nd March between 3pm and 5pm; Monday 23rd March between 9am and 11am; Tuesday 24th March between 3pm and 6pm.
7.2. If circumstances prohibit the artist from collecting their artworks at the set time then arrangements should be made by calling Leasha Craig 0406 539 407 or Vicki Bilger 0438 410 883 to make alternative arrangements prior to Tuesday 24th March.
7.3. Artworks not collected at the set time will attract a fee of $15 Australian dollars per artwork per day.
7.4. Artworks not collected by the end of March 2020 will be disposed of at the discretion of the Bay Gallery and Art Studios Co-operative.
8. Selection and Adjudication
8.1. The Judging Panel will consist of 3 parties, each party contributing 1 vote. One party will consist of representatives of the family of Jocelyn Smith, one party will consist of representatives of Art Studios Co-operative/Bay Gallery, and one party will be a guest judge appointed each year.
8.2. The Judging Panel will select artworks for exhibition based on digital photographs submitted as part of the entry process. The final adjudication will take place once the exhibition has been installed.
8.3. All prizes will be awarded on the advice of the judges. The judges’ decision is final.
8.4. Entrants shall not offer any gifts, hospitality or other inducements to judges or members of the Art Studios Co-operative for the duration of the competition and exhibition. This shall result in the disqualification of the entrants artwork from the competition.
9. Prizes
9.1. Grand Prize of $1,000 Australian dollars will be awarded at the discretion of the judges for the winning 2D artwork.
9.2. Grand Prize of $1,000 Australian dollars will be awarded at the discretion of the judges for the winning 3D artwork.
10. Sale of Artwork
10.1. All artworks exhibited in the Jocelyn Smith Philosophy Art Prize are for sale with the price clearly marked on both the back of the artwork and in the entry submission.
10.2. The Bay Gallery in association with the Art Studios Co-operative will co-ordinate the sale of works and charge a commission of 30%, please include this in your total sale price. If GST should be applied to the sale of your artwork, please include it in the total sale price.
11. Insurance
11.1. The Organisers will take all reasonable care but will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any artwork whilst in their custody.
11.2. The Organisers do not insure the works while in transit, in storage or on exhibition. Artists must arrange their own insurance to cover potential damage, loss or theft.
12. Copyright
12.1. Copyright for submitted artworks remains the property of the entrant.
12.2 Finalists grant the Organisers non-exclusive license to use images of their artwork, in print and online in perpetuity for the purpose of the creation of a permanent, public digital record of the Jocelyn Smith Philosophy Art Prize Finalists Exhibition and for the purpose of promoting the Jocelyn Smith Philosophy Art Prize.
12.3 Where an artist objects to the inclusion of their artwork for such use and record they may email the Organisers to arrange removal of the image.
12.4. When an image is used, the artist and title of the work will be acknowledged.
12.5. The Organisers reserve the right to apply a watermark to digital images.
12.6. Images will be used for non-commercial purposes only.
13. Attribution
13.1. Artists will be credited both online, and alongside their physical artworks, when on display.
14. Privacy
14.1. All personal information collected by the Organisers will be used solely for the purpose of the delivery of the annual Jocelyn Smith Philosophy Art Prize.
